Sales managers lead a company's sales team, and their responsibilities include: 

• Setting goals: Set sales goals and quotas for their team and monitor their progress 

• Developing plans: Create sales plans and strategies to achieve sales targets 

• Analyzing data: Analyze sales data to understand market trends and team performance 

• Managing staff: Hire and fire, mentor sales representatives, and provide training 

• Managing territories: Assign sales territories to their team 

• Managing budgets: Prepare budgets and approve expenditures 

• Managing customer complaints: Resolve customer complaints, especially those escalated by sales staff 

• Collaborating with marketing: Work with marketing to create sales enablement materials and campaigns 

• Communicating with other teams: Communicate customer feedback to product and engineering teams 

• Understanding the product: Have a thorough understanding of the product so they can ensure sales staff can discuss it in detail
